Huskies Net Two Wins In Return To The Court

Jan 27, 2021

SEATTLE – Head Coach Matt Anger had the days counted out exactly. "Ten months and 19 days," said Coach Anger after the Huskies completed a double-header sweep of Eastern Washington inside the Nordstrom Tennis Center. That was the gap since the last time the Dawgs took the court before Covid cut short their 2020 season.

"I'm thankful to be out here," Anger said. "I was happy from the first ball we hit in practice back in September. It just felt good just knowing the guys were back. I was happy after the holidays, that first ball in practice again, and happy to be out here today."

The Huskies gave their coach reason to be pleased with the season-opening performance, as UW did not drop a set in singles or doubles in the consecutive 7-0 wins over the Eagles.

Three Huskies made their collegiate debuts today, all with wins. Sophomore Clement Chidekh alternated at the top two singles spots with junior Jack Davis and Chidekh showed why he was rated as the No. 8 newcomer by the ITA with two solid wins in singles and doubles. Freshman Han-Chih Lin also was 2-0 in singles and doubles in the middle of the singles lineup, and sophomore Nikit Reddy debuted in the No. 6 spot in the second match of the day and was a straight-set winner.

Returning starters Davis, Ewen Lumsden, and Adam Torocsik all went 2-0 in their singles matches today as well, and senior Thibault Cancel grabbed a win in the first match at the No. 5 spot.

The Huskies grabbed the doubles point both times with no set closer than 6-3.

Washington will next head on the road for its first big challenge with road matches on consecutive days at Tulsa, on Feb. 5, and then at Arkansas on Feb. 6. The next home match for UW will come on Feb. 19 against Idaho.
