Volleyball Sweeps Cal for Perfect Weekend
BERKELEY, Calif. – Utah volleyball moved to 4-0 on the season with a Sunday sweep at Cal in Haas Pavilion.
The Utes took care of business winning 25-10, 25-16 and 28-26.
Kenzie Koerber got the final kill of the match point and finished the day with nine kills and one error on 16 attempts hitting .500. She also had six digs, 3.0 blocks and a service ace as well.
Utah hit .391 in the match only making nine errors. Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torres guided the offense with 34 assists while also having six digs.
In the first set, Megan Yett set the tone leading Utah on an 11-0 run to go up 12-1. During the run, she had four service aces. Utah kept the pressure on closing out the opening set winning five of the last six points.
The Utes finished with six service aces in the first set and to add to the dominance, they also had five blocks as Koerber, Kennedi Evans and Allie Olsen all had 2.0 blocks each.
In the second set, Utah was trailing 8-9 and scored five straight to go up 13-9. After that, Cal didn't get closer than two points as Utah surged ahead to go up 2-0 in the match with a 25-16 second-set win.
The third set was really close the entire time. Utah edged out just a little toward the end at 24-21, but Cal ended up saving four match points and had a set point of their own. The Utes saved the Bears set point and rattled off three straight to win the match.
Dani Drews led the team with 15 kills hitting .364. Kennedi Evans had four kills on four swings.
Utah will be on the road once again next weekend to take on Arizona State in Tempe, Arizona. First match against the Sun Devils is Friday, February 5 at 3 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Network.
