Flores Named Sports Star Of The Year Nominee
SEATTLE - Morganne Flores was named as a nominee for the Seattle Sports Star of the Year, Women's Sports today by the Seattle Sports Council. Flores could become the fifth Husky softball player to earn the award, joining Sis Bates, Ali Aguilar, Danielle Lawrie, and Becky Newbry. The 2009 team was also honored at the Sports Star of the Year awards.
This is the fourth time in five years that a member of the Husky softball team has been nominated for the Seattle Sports Star of the Year, Women's Sports award. Bates was nominated each of the last two years, with Ali Aguilar nominated and winning in 2017.
Now entering her fifth season with the Huskies, Flores is the reigning Johnny Bench Award winner as college softball's top catcher. She was named an All-American in 2019 as the Huskies made their third consecutive Women's College World Series trip. Flores is fifth in Washington history in home runs and ninth in RBI entering this season. In each of the last two seasons she has been named to USA Softball's watchlist for the Collegiate Player of the Year award.
Flores is Washington's all-time leader in postseason home runs already entering 2021. She led the Pac-12 in RBI as a sophomore, then became the second Husky ever to hit double-digit home runs in a single season of Pac-12 play as a redshirt junior. Flores has hit over .300 every year of her career, with an OBP over .380 and a slugging percentage over .500. She carries a career slash line of .332/.423/.655.
