Drechsel Named Pac-12 Player Of The Week

Feb 2, 2021

SEATTLE – Coming off a career-high 24 kill effort, senior Samantha Drechsel has been named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Drechsel surpassed the 1,000 career kills mark over the weekend, as Washington got two wins over Arizona in Tucson.
This is the second Pac-12 Player of the Week award in Drechsel's career, but her first since Nov. 12, 2018.
The Huskies needed every last one of Drechsel's 24 kills on Saturday to stave off Arizona's upset bid. The final kill came on match point in the fifth set as the Huskies pulled it out, 15-13. Drechsel hit .400 for the match and added two aces and five blocks for a career-high 28.5 points.
In Friday's first meeting with Arizona, the Woodinville, Wash. native also tallied nine kills and two aces and five more blocks as UW won in a sweep.
The nine kills on Friday got Drechsel to exactly 1,000 career kills, with her 24 on Saturday taking her to 1,024. She played her freshman season at Maryland, tallying 211 kills, and has since totaled 813 as a Husky. Drechsel was an All-Pac-12 Preseason Team selection after being All-Pac-12 honorable mention last year.
Washington (3-1) will look to extend a three-match win streak at home this week, taking on Oregon State twice, on Thursday at 6 p.m. and again on Saturday at 3 p.m.
