Bolton Named POTW for Kickoff Weekend Performance
LOS ANGELES – Junior Elysia Bolton of the UCLA women's tennis team was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for Jan. 25-31, the conference announced Thursday.
In an ITA Kickoff Weekend championship match rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 25 due to rain, Bolton was on court for the first and final points of the No. 2 Bruins' 4-0 home win over Texas A&M.
The pair of Bolton and Jada Hart defeated its second ranked opponent in as many days, knocking off No. 39 Jayci Goldsmith and Tatiana Makarova by a 6-2 score on the top court to secure the doubles point. Then, on the second singles court, Bolton beat Goldsmith, 6-2, 6-3, for the deciding point. Bolton is a combined 4-0 on the season.
The win earned UCLA a trip to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Stillwater, Okla., where it will open play against host and 10th-ranked Oklahoma State Friday at 1:30 p.m., PT.
The Pac-12 Player of the Week award represents the third of Bolton's career and 31st in UCLA women's tennis program history. It also marks one year to the day of Bolton's second weekly honor from the conference.
