GymDawgs First Home Meet on Monday

Feb 4, 2021

Meet Notes

SEATTLE – The Washington GymDawgs stay in Seattle this week, hosting the Oregon State Beavers on Monday at 2:00 pm PT, for their first home meet of 2021. This meet will air live on the Pac-12 Network. The last time the GymDawgs competed at home was on March 1, 2020.

In 2018, Washington and Oregon State met in Seattle with a closely contested meet. The GymDawgs scored an even 197.000, their best score of that season, to beat the Beavers (196.500).

The GymDawgs had three gymnasts compete in all-around in week two of the 2021 season: Geneva Thompson, Katie McNamara, and Skylar Killough-Wilhelm. McNamara and Killough-Wilhelm are the first pair of freshmen to both compete on all-around in the same meet since 2000. Only once in that time frame have two freshmen competed in the same season: Janae Janik and Alexandra Yacalis in 2014.

Killough-Wilhelm also had a high score of 9.850 on bars last week against Utah. That was the highest bars score by a GymDawg freshman since Allison Northey ended the 2013 season with a score of 9.875.

Gabi Wickman made her collegiate debut, making it four freshmen competing for the GymDawgs last week. This was the first time since 2014 that at least four freshmen have competed in the same meet for the GymDawgs. During the 2014 season, Kaitlyn Duranczyk, Janae Janik, Faith Morrison, and Alexandra Yacalis competed in eight meets at the same time.

Amara Cunningham continued the season strong with scores of 9.875 on floor and a 9.850 on vault in Utah. It was the third time in the last two years that Cunningham has recorded scores over 9.850 or better on both vault and floor in the same meet.

Thompson had her streak of 23 consecutive meets with a vault score of 9.800 or higher come to an end, recording a 9.750 for the first time in her career. Thompson has still had a score of 9.800 on at least one event in every meet of her career except one: on January 10, 2020, Thompson competed on bars only, recording a 9.750.
