SEATTLE - The Husky men's tennis team is out on the road this week for the first time, swinging down south to visit Tulsa and Arkansas on consecutive days. It's been over a week now since the Huskies opened their 2021 season with a double-header sweep against Eastern Washington, and the Dawgs are anxious to get back to match play. First up will be a stop in Oklahoma to take on Tulsa on Friday in a match starting at 1 p.m. Pacific time. On Saturday the Huskies will make the drive to Fayetteville, Ark. to take on the Razorbacks in another 1 p.m. Pacific start.
The Dawgs will be challenged by a pair of teams that have combined to play ten matches thus far compared to the two for UW.
The Golden Hurricanes already have six matches under their belts and are 3-3, having lost their last match to Arkansas on Wednesday, 2-5. Last season Tulsa was 10-7 on the year when things were suspended. Tulsa faced one Pac-12 team a year ago, getting a 4-2 win over Utah. Kody Pearson is ranked in singles for Tulsa at No. 67, and he is also ranked in doubles at the No. 29 spot along with Connor Di Marco.
The Razorbacks just beat Tulsa to go to 4-0 in the dual season, and Arkansas also was able to compete in the fall. Last year Arkansas was 6-6 but had a big win over then-No. 5 Baylor and another close 4-3 loss to No. 14 Ole Miss when the pandemic ended the season. Alex Reco is ranked 72nd in singles for Arkansas as he went 9-1 last year in dual play.
