STILLWATER, Okla. – The No. 2 UCLA women's tennis team suffered a 4-2 loss to No. 3 Texas in the semifinal round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships Saturday at Greenwood Tennis Center.

Jada Hart and Abbey Forbes posted late wins for the Bruins (3-1), but Kylie Collins prevented a third set against Annette Goulak and clinched a trip to the championship match for the Longhorns (7-0).

UCLA will have a chance to leave the tournament with a win, as it is set to meet No. 5 Pepperdine in a consolation match Sunday at 1:30 p.m., PT. Texas advances to face event defending champion and No.-1 ranked North Carolina for the title.

The Bruins' veteran combination of Abi Altick and Taylor Johnson earned its first win of 2021, knocking off Charlotte Chavatipon and Marta Perez Mur by a 6-2 score on Court 3, to get doubles play started. No. 48 Fernanda Labrana and Anna Turati answered on Court 2, where the pair jumped out to a 3-0 advantage en route to a 6-3 defeat of Goulak and Vivian Wolff.

Five straight breaks of serve started the matchup between No. 1 Hart/Elysia Bolton and the all-freshman team of Collins/Lulu Sun, which became the focus on Court 1. A hold at 3-2 gave Collins/Sun the upper hand and the pair captured a deuce point at 5-4 to lock up the doubles point.

Forbes captured the lone first set for UCLA in singles play, as Texas looked to ride its momentum the rest of the way. No. 66 Peyton Stearns was first off, as she dealt No. 9 Bolton a 6-3, 6-2 loss on the top court to make it 2-0. Then, on Court 4, Chavatipon held off Wolff in the second set for a 6-1, 6-4 decision that put the Longhorns one win away from the final.

No. 19 Hart bounced back against No. 94 Sun on Court 3, where the Longhorn dominated the first set. Hart gave the Bruins new life with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory.

Next door, No. 7 Forbes cut the deficit again when she proved triumphant in a top-10 showdown with No. 5 Anna Turati. Turati nearly erased a sizeable first-set deficit, but Forbes closed strong and did not look back for a 7-5, 6-1 win.

With Altick already into a third set on Court 5, Goulak tried to do the same on Court 6. Collins sealed the victory, however, posting a 7-1 advantage in a tiebreaker for a 7-5, 7-6(1) decision.
