USC Women’s Tennis Completes Two Sweeps in Saturday Doubleheader

LOS ANGELES--The USC women's tennis team kicked off its 2021 home opener with a doubleheader in Marks Stadium today (Feb. 6). The Women of Troy swept two teams on the sunny Saturday in Los Angeles as they defeated Saint Mary's 4-0 and Cal State Fullerton 4-0. The Women of Troy are now 3-1 on the season. 
 
The morning began by taking the court against the Saint Mary's Gaels. USC drew blood first as the duo of Cheong/Dvorak defeated Gael pair Massey/Ville 6-1 on court three. Consistent as ever, the No. 12 tandem of Kulikov/Cayetano closed out doubles with a 6-2 win over the Gael partners Kozyreva/McIntyre on court one. USC won the doubles point and held a 1-0 lead. 
 
The Trojans held on to the momentum as they rolled into singles. Graduate transfer Summer Dvorak claimed the first win with a strong 6-0, 6-0 score over Gael opponent Liesl Pieters on court four. Junior Danielle Willson notched another win in her column with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Gael Jocelyn Massey on court three. Willson is undefeated with a 3-0 record on the 2021 season. 
 
With her first win as a Trojan, graduate transfer Clare McKee clinched the match for the Women of Troy with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Aubane Ville on court five. The remaining matches in play were abandoned. 
 
After a two hour break, USC took to the court again to challenge the Cal State Fullerton Titans. The Trojans took their third doubles win of the day as McKee/Willson defeated the Titans pair of Garcia/Acidera 6-4 on court two. USC's No. 12 ranked duo Kulikov/Cayetano battled it out on court one with Titans Tobrand/Kobayashi. The Trojans pulled through in clutch time and Kulikov/Cayetano won their match 7-5 to claim the doubles point for Troy. USC entered singles with a 1-0 lead. 
 
Junior Salma Ewing made the first move for the Trojans in singles as she swiftly defeated her Titan opponent, Eira Tobrand 6-2, 6-1 on court two. Soon thereafter, McKee claimed her second win of the day as she beat Titan Juliette Daries 6-2, 6-1 on court five. USC led the match 3-0. 
 
Grad transfer Dvorak came in hot with her second win of the day to clinch the match with her 6-2, 6-4 victory over Titan Natalie Duffy. 
 
USC's next action takes the team back to Malibu, Calif. where they will challenge Pepperdine in a rematch. The Trojans take on the Waves on Saturday (Feb. 13) at 1 p.m. PT.
