Spitz T-1, Bruins Second After Day One at The Farms

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - Sophomore Emma Spitz shares the lead after the first day of the Lamkin Invitational, while the Bruins sit in second place following Monday's play at The Farms Golf Club.

The Bruins (+15, 591) opened with a 14-over 302 as a team Monday morning before rebounding with a 1-over 289 in the afternoon. UCLA is six strokes back of USC (+9, 585). Seven players were still on the course when play was suspended at 5:45 p.m.

Spitz shot a pair of 2-under 70s to sit at 4-under 140 after two rounds. She made four birdies and two bogeys in the morning, picking up strokes on the par-5 ninth, par-4 fourth and 15th holes and par-3 16th. In round two, the sophomore made back-to-back birdies on the par-4 sixth and seventh and additional birdies on the par-5 18th, par-4 11th and par-3 14th holes, adding three bogeys.

Sophomore Emilie Paltrinieri is tied for seventh (+2, 146) following a pair of 1-over 73s. She made three birdies on the par-3 16th, par-4 sixth and par-5 ninth in the morning, as well as two bogeys and a double. In round two, Paltrinieri had two birdies on the par-5 third and par-4 sixth, making three bogeys.

Junior Simar Singh is tied for 18th (+6, 150). She made four birdies in a 4-over 76 in round one, posting red numbers on three of the four par-5s (ninth, 12th and 18th) and the par-3 fifth, adding three bogeys, a double and a triple. Singh shot a 2-over 74 in the afternoon, making birdie on the par-5 ninth and three bogeys.

Sophomore Annabel Wilson (T-31, +11, 155) rebounded by 11 shots in the afternoon, posting an even-par 72. She made four birdies on the par-5 ninth and a trio of par-4s (sixth, 10th and 13th) to go with two bogeys and a double. In the morning, the sophomore shot an 83 (+11), making a pair of birdies on the par-4 seventh and 13th holes.

Junior Phoebe Yue (T-51, +22, 166) had three birdies in each of her two rounds on Monday. She shot an 86 (+14) in the morning, making birdie on the par-5 third and ninth holes and the par-3 fifth. In the afternoon, the junior birdied the par-4 1st, par-3 16th and par-5 18th, adding five bogeys and three doubles in an 8-over 80.

The Bruins tee off in the final round at 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
