Feb 10, 2021

STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford fifth-year senior Ella Donaghu was named NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Wednesday.

Donaghu won the Florida State Winter Classic in Tallahassee, Florida, on Friday in Stanford's first cross country competition in 14 months. Donaghu ran 20:07.0 for 6 kilometers (3.73 miles), coming within 0.4 of the Apalachee Regional Park course record.

Donaghu led No. 4 Stanford to second as a team in the first competition for Stanford's cross country/track and field program since MPSF indoor track and field championships on Feb. 29, 2020,

Donaghu broke from the lead pack over the final kilometer, and beat runner-up Cailie Logue of Iowa State, the three-time Big 12 cross country champion by two seconds. Stanford teammate Zofia Dudek, a freshman in her collegiate debut, trailed Logue by just 0.1 for third.

Donaghu is a four-time All-American and was the 2019 NCAA West Regional champion. She was eighth at the 2019 NCAA Championships, earning her first cross country All-America honor.

Stanford is next scheduled to race at the UNLV in North Las Vegas, Nevada, on Feb. 19.
