Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award Watch List

FORT WORTH, Texas – California seniors Quentin Selma and Darren Baker were named to the 2021 Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award (BBCSA) watch list for the second consecutive season. The announcement was made Wednesday.

The BBCSA is based on performance at the plate, academics and personal integrity. Presented by SR Bats, the award was created by the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation. Selma and Baker – who were also named to the award's 2020 watch list – are among 48 student-athletes representing 17 conferences around the country, including all five power conferences.

Selma was the Golden Bears' most consistent hitter during the shortened 2020 season, leading them in batting average (.293), OPS (.825), doubles (4), RBI (16), walks (12) and on-base percentage (.411). He was recognized as the Pac-12 Player of the Week on Feb. 25. A 2019 All-Pac-12 First Team selection, Selma owns a .282 career batting average along with 11 home runs and 44 RBI.

Baker batted .286 and led Cal in hits (18) and runs (15) while starting all 16 games in 2020. A three-year starter for the Bears, Baker enters his fourth year in Berkeley with 110 career starts and splits of .290/.330/.342 with 30 stolen bases in 33 attempts. He was recently named a preseason All-American by Baseball America.

The BBCSA originally started in 2017 as an honor recognizing the top college hitter in Texas. The award expanded to a regional level in 2019 and then became a national award in 2020; however, no winner was announced due to COVID-19 pandemic's impact on the shortened season.

The winner of the 2021 BBCSA will be announced in June and honored at a gala in the fall at the Fort Worth Club. Fans can follow news about the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award and its Player of the Week honorees during the season at www.braganslugger.com.
