SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah track & field team will finally get to compete in an outdoor meet for the first time since May of 2019 this Saturday, Feb. 13, at the UNLV Winter Challenge #1 at the Myron Partridge Track Stadium.

When the Utah track & field team steps foot inside Myron Partridge Track Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 13, it will have been 630 days since it last competed in an outdoor track meet after the 2020 outdoor season was canceled due to COVID-19. The Utes will send 12 competitors to the UNLV Winter Challenge #1 meet with them racing in seven different events.
Of the 12 competing, Delaney Gates will be making her collegiate debut. In addition, Brooklyn James and Meghan Curtin will be making their season-debuts. Curtin competed at the Weber State Indoor Invitational back on Jan. 30, but competed as an individual.

Brooklyn James will be pulling double duty this spring as she competes both on the track and with the Utah soccer team since the traditional fall season was postponed and moved to the spring due to COVID-19. The Clackamas, Ore., native will be quite busy this week, traveling with the soccer team to St. George, Utah, to play Dixie State on Thursday, Feb. 11, before returning home that same night. She will then take off with the track & field team the following day on Friday, Feb. 12, to Las Vegas for the UNLV Winter Challenge #1 on Saturday, Feb. 13. James then heads back to Salt Lake City on Saturday after the meet before taking the bus ride down to Herriman with the soccer team to face Weber State on Sunday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. (MT).
Utah had a great showing at the Arkansas Qualifier last week with three runners recording new PRs while racing at the Randal Tyson Track Center for the very first time.
Maya LeBar got the day going for Utah, tying her PR in the 60m dash after she sprinted a time of 7.84. Lauren O'Banion then set herself a new PR in the 400m clocking in with a time of 56.21. Kelise Davis joined in on the fun in the 400m as well, crossing the finish line with a mark of 57.58. Then, in the 200m, Davis and LeBar finished right after one another with Davis setting a new PR time of 25.13 while LeBar clocked in at 25.16.

The Utes will get a week off to regroup and train before heading to sunny San Diego for a dual meet against San Diego State on Thursday, Feb. 25.
