LUBBOCK, Texas - The Sun Devils opened the Texas Tech Shootout in strong fashion Friday in a performance that included some new personal records as well as a new ASU program mark. No. 15 pole vaulter Hayley Rayburn launched herself 4.32m, just past the 4.30m program record, while No. 19 Kentre Patterson and No. 16 Jamar Marshall Jr. both moved to third all-time in the 60m hurdles. Antonio Mitchell Jr. also improved his 60m time to slide up a few spots in ASU's top-10 chart.

Marshall Jr. opened the day by winning the 60mH qualifiers in a personal-best 7.76. Patterson finished right behind him in 7.86. The duo kept the motors running into finals but flipped spots. Patterson brought home the gold in a personal-best 7.76, and Marshall Jr. came in second in 7.81. Patterson improved his 60mH time by 0.08 while Marshall Jr. brought his time down by 0.07.

Rayburn then went on a tear in the vault. The Bailey, Colorado, native entered the day with a 4.16m personal-record but leapt past that four times en route to finishing second behind Oklahoma State's Ariadni Adamopoulou (4.37m). Rayburn briefly held the new meet record, previously 4.30m, before Adamopoulou passed her. Rayburn's height beat out April Kubishta's 4.30m from 2008 for the new program mark.

Mitchell Jr. began the day with a seventh-place finish (6.73) in 60m qualifying before placing third in the final in a personal-best 6.67. His new time ties for seventh all-time at ASU.

The Sun Devils are back in action for day two of the shootout tomorrow with the first of the field events beginning at 11 am CST (10 a.m. MST).
