URBANA, ILL. — The No. 1 USC men's tennis team was upended by No. 5 Texas' comeback push in a consolation semifinal match at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships today, with the Trojans taking a 4-3 loss. USC is now 7-2 overall on the year.

Doubles action saw the Trojans jump out similar to the previous day, with Stefan Dostanic and Bradley Frye scoring a swift win on court two — this one a 6-1 decision to put some wind in USC's sails. Texas fired back, however, and captured a 6-2 win on court three over USC's Mor Bulis and Lodewijk Weststrate to put the decider on court one. The neck-and-neck battle was forced into a tiebreaker, and the top-ranked Trojans — Daniel Cukierman and Riley Smith — were all business in closing out a 7-6 (2) win that plugged a point on the board for the Trojans and brought on singles play.

From his No. 5 slot, Lodewijk Weststrate went full-court press against Chih Chi Huang in tearing his way to a 6-0, 6-1 to lodge a 2-0 lead for the Trojans. Not long after, #1 Daniel Cukierman whipped up a smooth 6-2, 6-2 win on court one over #57 Siem Woldeab, and USC was gripping a 3-0 advantage. But the Longhorns crafted a momentum shift when #120 Eliot Spizzirri pulled off a 7-6 (2), 6-3 upset of USC's #19 senior Riley Smith on court two. That had the score at 3-1 USC with three-setters raging on the remaining courts.

At the No. 3 spot, USC's #104 Stefan Dostanic had forced a third set against Texas' #78 Micah Braswell, but the Longhorn held on to get the 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win and cut the margin down to 3-2. On court six, Even McDonald forged a comeback path against USC's Jake Sands in pulling out tight second and third sets for a 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 win the snarled the score up at 3-3. That put the deciding match on court three, where Texas' Cleeve Harper completed a three-set comeback as well in topping USC's #79 Ryder Jackson 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 to claim victory for the Longhorns.

USC will wrap up competition tomorrow (Feb. 14) in a 9 a.m. CT match against TCU.
