Feb 13, 2021

Live Scoring | International Sun Devils Shining in the Desert | Sun Devil Women's Golf Wins the Match in the Desert | 2021 Season Preview

TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Women's Golf will host the inaugural Sun Devil Winter Classic at Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale from February 15-17.

Arizona State is set to compete in their second event of the 2021 season after opening the campaign with a dominating victory at the Match in the Desert in January. This will be the first of two tournaments that the Sun Devils will host in Arizona, with the PING/ASU Invitational taking place March 26-28 at Papago Golf Club.

"The team is ready to continue the momentum from the opening-season win at our first home tournament of the season," Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye remarked. "All of them have been working hard to improve their game and I am looking forward to seeing the results on the course."

Limited fan attendance will be permitted, with CDC and Arizona State Health Guidelines in place. Spectators must wear a mask and follow all Talking Stick Golf Club COVID rules and regulations, which can be found here

"We are really excited to have some of our hometown fans get the chance to see our team," Coach Farr-Kaye mentioned. "The support of our fan base means so much to us, so it is nice to have a chance to safely open this up to the public."

Coach Farr-Kaye's team will be joined by nine other Pac-12 programs at Talking Stick Golf Club, making the Sun Devil Winter Classic one of the most highly-anticipated tournaments of the Spring. The Pac-12 Conference is once again the strongest and deepest conference in the country.

Six of the 10 teams competing at the event earned a spot in Golf Channel's Preseason Top-30 Team Power Rankings. Nine of the 54 individuals in the field made Golf Channel's Preseason Top-30 Individual Power Rankings.

Arizona State, Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, USC, Washington, and Washington State travel to Scottsdale to contend for the first-ever Sun Devil Winter Classic Championship. Each team will have a lineup of five golfers in addition to four playing as individuals.

The Sun Devils feature one of the deepest rosters in the country, giving Coach Farr-Kaye plenty of options when it comes time to set her lineup. Because ASU is the host and the proximity of the tournament, seven golfers will make the trip to Scottsdale to compete for the Maroon & Gold.

The five in the lineup this week that will count towards the total are Linn Grant, Olivia Mehaffey, Alessandra Fanali, Alexandra Forsterling, and Amanda Linner. Raquel Olmos will make her season debut and Ashley Menne will make her collegiate debut, both participating as individuals.

Tee-times start at 7:45 am MST and run until 10:18 am MST, as the field plays in groups of three. The first Sun Devil will tee-off at 7:45 am MST, with another starting every nine minutes after that. Individuals Raquel Olmos (10:09 am MST) and Ashley Menne (10:18 am MST) tee-off later in the day.

Three stroke-play rounds of 18 holes will take place from Feb. 15-17, with live scoring provided by Golfstat at the following link.
