BERKELEY – America East coaches predict a sixth-place overall finish and second among west teams for the California field hockey team, according to the league's preseason poll released Wednesday. The Golden Bears earned 29 votes.
 
Monmouth was predicted to win the league with 60 votes and five first-place votes. Stanford led the three west coast schools with 46 votes and one first-place vote.
 
Last season Cal finished 8-11 overall and 1-3 in conference play, including an overtime victory over UC Davis. The Bears also picked up an overtime win over Penn State and a victory over No. 24 Cornell. In the 2019 America East Conference Tournament, Cal advanced to the semifinals after defeating New Hampshire in the first round, 2-1.
