Leon D'Souza Paces USC Men's Golf's Second Round Efforts At The Prestige
Senior Leon D'Souza's 2-over 73 led the USC men's golf team's efforts today during the second round of The Prestige on Tuesday (Feb. 16) at PGA West's Greg Normal Course in La Quinta, Calif.
The Trojans finished the second round in 17th at 18-over 586 (287-299), a promising first nine giving way to some challenges on the back, exacerbated by late wind on the course. Pepperdine assumed the lead at 8-under 560 with Arizona State and Arizona tied for second at 5-under. No other schools in the 24-team field are under par.
Senior Kaito Onishi is pacing USC's overall efforts, tied for 41st at 3-over 145 (71-74), posting a pair of birdies today, while D'Souza is tied for 56th at 4-over 146 (73-73).
Freshman Shane Ffrench is tied for 61st at 5-over 147 (72-75), junior Cameron Henry is tied for 68th at 6-over 148 (71-77) and sophomore Tyler Guo is tied for 93rd at 10-over 152 (74-78).
"It got pretty windy on the back 9 today, but we didn't do a good job with it and let things kind of snowball out of control," USC Head Coach J.T. Higgins said. "We were in great shape with about 7-8 holes to go and let a good round slip away. I hope it's a good learning experience and we can show some heart tomorrow and move back up the leaderboard."
USC will tee off beginning at 6:45 a.m. PT in the final round, off of 1.
