Ducks Wrap Up Play At The Prestige
LA QUINTA, Calif. – Oregon finished its first of two tournaments in the Palm Springs area this week tied for 20th, finishing 31 over after carding a 9 over final round at The Prestige at the Greg Norman Course at PGA West. Owen Avrit was the high finisher for the second straight tournament for the Ducks, coming in tied for 29th at 4 over.
How It Happened: Starting on the back nine, Avrit got his day going with his only bogey of the day at the par-4 10th, but bounced right back with a birdie at the par-4 11th. He followed that with seven straight pars to make the turn at even for the round. He kept that same steady play going on the front nine, making a birdie at the par-3 fourth hole while carding eight pars to finish 4 over and in the top 30.
Tom Gueant and Nate Stember each shot a 3-over 74 to close out play at The Prestige. Gueant had an up-and-down opening nine with two birdies, two bogeys and a double to make the turn at 2 over, before a much steadier front nine with a bogey and eight pars. Stember was 5 over through 13 holes but closed strong with birdies at holes five and nine to shoot even par on the front.
Craig Ronne shot a 4-over 75 and ended the week (place) at 7 over, while Yuki Moriyama shot 13 over for the tournament after a 5-over 76 in round three. Jake Sollon shot a 7-over 79 in the final round of The Prestige Individual Invitational, finishing tied for 19th after going into the day in fourth place.
Arizona and North Carolina shared the team title at 4 under against the loaded field that included six teams ranked in the latest GCAA Coaches' Poll.
