Women of Utah Conclude XC Regular-Season in Las Vegas

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah women's cross country team prepares to close out the shortened regular-season at the Battle Born Collegiate Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. After resuming races just two weeks ago, the Utes will travel back to Sin City and finish the season off at Craig Ranch Regional Park on Friday, Feb. 19, at 11:45 a.m. (MT). 
 
In Friday's race, the Utes will face competitors from No. 4 New Mexico, No. 5 Colorado, No. 6 Stanford, No. 9 Washington, No. 11 Boise State, No. 16 NAU, Nevada, Southern Utah, Colorado State, Cal Baptist and Washington State. Karli Branch, Morgan Jensen, Sara Leonard, Astrid Lindgren, Sarah Newton, Natalie Platil, Kennedy Powell, Sophie Ryan and Poppy Tank will run for the Women of Utah in the 6k race.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Tank led Utah in its last race with an eighth-place finish two weeks ago on the same course at the Silver State Collegiate Cross Country Challenge. Freshman Morgan Jensen gave a notable performance running in her first 6k, clocking in at 21:16.5 and edged out teammate Sarah Newton (21:16.9) for 28th.
 
Natalie Platil followed closely, checking in at 21:48.8 before Sophie Ryan posted a time of 22:09.5 – which was just ahead of Kennedy Powell at 22:10.3. Karli Branch (22:21.9), Sara Leonard (22:38.0) and Astrid Lindgren (23:05.7) rounded out the race and finished in succession of one another.
 
UP NEXT
Upon their return from Las Vegas, the Women of Utah will begin their preparation for the Pac-12 Championships – which are set to place on March 5, 2021, at Chambers Bay Golf Course, home of the 2015 U.S. Open.
