Cats Down Beavers in Straight Sets

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona Volleyball won its third straight home match, defeating Oregon State in straight sets on Friday evening in McKale Center (25-22, 25-19, 26-24).

Arizona held Oregon State to .092 hitting in the match despite being nearly doubled in blocks in the match (5-9.5). The Cats out-dug the Beavers, 53-44 in the win.

Without senior outside hitter Paige Whipple for the second straight match due to injury, the Wildcats were once again led by their underclassmen, who led the Wildcats to the sweep.

Freshman outside hitter Sofia Maldonado Diaz was once again impressive for the Wildcats, recording 16 kills on .297 hitting in the three-set match. She also recorded her second career double-double, posting 10 digs, second most on the team.

Freshman setter Emery Herman set a career high with four aces in the match, the most by any Wildcat this season. She also had 33 assists, six digs and three kills in the victory.

Sophomore libero Kamaile Hiapo posted her sixth double-digit-dig effort in the last seven matches, leading Arizona with 15 in the match.

Freshmen Jaelyn Hodge finished second on the team with eight kills and sophomore Dilara Gedikoglu finished with seven kills and a season-high-tying 10 digs. Gedikoglu also led the team with two solo blocks.

The Wildcats improved to 3-6 (3-6 Pac-12) on the season while Oregon State fell to 3-6 (3-6 Pac-12). The two teams will meet again on Sunday at 1 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
