Match Notes

BOULDER — Colorado soccer gets set to make its Kittredge Field debut when it takes on Weber State on Saturday. The noon kickoff will mark the first time CU has played a home match outside of Prentup Field, since 2004.

Kittredge Field, although temporary, will be the third home to Colorado soccer, joining Pleasant View Soccer Complex and Prentup Field.

"There was so much snow at Prentup and we really want Prentup to be ready for Pac-12 play," head coach Danny Sanchez explained. "We don't want to be destroying the field. We've trained at Kit a lot this spring. The weather looks nice and we appreciate Weber State coming in."

Colorado (2-0-0) has had a solid start to the delayed 2020 season. The Buffs have played 187 minutes of shutout soccer, holding Denver and Northern Colorado scoreless the previous two matches. It's the second year in a row CU has not allowed a goal in its first two contests, but this time around it has been with two different goalkeepers. Dani Hansen got the start against Denver, while Megan Short got the nod against Northern Colorado.

CU's first goals of the season didn't come until the Northern Colorado match. Junior Hannah Sharts opened the scoring for CU in the 68th minute last week, leading to three goals in 12 minutes. Sharts got rewarded for her efforts, being named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week.

"She's one of one of our captains voted by the team and she's really been a stabilizing force back there," Sanchez noted. "Especially, with Hannah Cardenas out for a little bit. She's kind of the glue back there. She is defending well, organizing [the defense] and getting a goal is a nice benefit. I think she's going to be a dangerous piece for us on set pieces, and she wants that responsibility. We're pleased with her performance so far, we know that bigger challenges are coming ahead."

Weber State (0-0-1) has had a tough slate to start its season. The Wildcats played BYU in exhibition play and then opened the season with a 1-1 draw against Utah. Saturday will be the first meeting between the two schools.

The general public is prohibited.
