Seniors Khan, Boos Pace Cal at Dave Murray Invite

Feb 19, 2021

TUCSON, Ariz. -- After more than a year off between competition, the Cal cross country teams returned to the course and had a strong showing on Friday at the Dave Murray Invitational at Rolling Hills Golf Club.

The men's team took second-place, garnering 55 points with two Top 10 finishes. Senior Steven Khan led the way, taking third in a personal record time of 24:39.8. Khan set a new personal best for the second straight meet following his performance at the Pac-12 Championships in 2019.

The second Top 10 finish for the men's squad was redshirt senior Ben Harper, who took home sixth-place with a time of 24:46.6. Redshirt sophomore Colby Corcoran crossed the line next for the Bears, helping the team claim second with his 11th-place finish coming in at 25:20.2.

Friday's meet also marked the cross country collegiate debuts of two athletes on the men's side: junior James Abrahams and redshirt sophomore Jaden Rosenthal.

On the women's side, the Bears clinched a third-place finish with 70 points and two Top 10 finishers. Senior Annie Boos claimed second-place, finishing at 21:43.5. Sophomore Sara Osterberg crossed the line next for the women's team in seventh-place with a time of 22:09.0. Senior Meredith Corda also returned to the course for the Bears to give the squad a boost with her 14th-place finish at 22:29.7.

"It was great to get back into competition and test ourselves against a few Pac-12 teams," Cal head cross country coach Bobby Lockhart said. "I'm really happy that the seniors had the opportunity to compete in the California singlet. Not only did they perform well, but their leadership on the field is something to be admired. We learned a lot from the race and where we are with our fitness, and look forward to being that much better two weeks from now."

Up Next: The Golden Bears have two weeks to prepare for the Pac-12 Championships, with the competition set for Friday, March 5 in University Place, Washington. The women kick off the action at 11 a.m. PT and the men follow at 12 p.m. PT. The event will be aired on Pac-12 Networks.
