Oregon State Falls to No. 13 California; Notches Two Individual Titles

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's gymnastics team topped its season-best with a 196.200 but it was visiting No. 13 California taking home the win, Sunday evening.
The Beavers found their way to the team victory on the floor while losing beam by just 0.125. Meanwhile, the bars lineup claimed its best score this season with a 48.700. 
In addition to claiming the team win on the floor, Kaitlyn Yanish solidified her fifth floor title in as many meets. Kristina Peterson and Madi Dagen claimed the shared individual win on beam with Peterson earning a personal record and Dagen notching her fifth beam title. 
Oregon State opened with a strong rotation on vault. Peterson led the vault lineup with a 9.750 before Yanish earned a big 9.875. Lacy Dagen, finishing second overall, topped OSU's scores with a 9.900.
The Beavers' second rotation saw much improvement. M. Dagen opened with an energetic routine before Kaitlyn Hoiland followed with a personal record. The career bests continued as all but one of the remaining gymnasts in the lineup topped their previous best scores on bars. Kayla Bird earned the highest Beaver score with a 9.850 on bars.  
The second half of the meet saw the Beavers keeping up with the Bears. At the halfway mark, the Bears were ahead by 1.150. Allowing California to gain just 0.075 in the final two rotations, the final score difference was 1.225. 
The third rotation saw Oregon State on the beam. Peterson opened with a huge 9.925. Matching her energy, both Bird and Ariana Young scored personal bests as the second and third gymnasts in the lineup. Sharing the overall beam title with Peterson, M. Dagen closed out the beam with a 9.925.
For the final rotation, the Beavers came together to win on the floor. Niya Mack opened with a powerful routine as she matched her career-best. Following her lead, Bird delivered a personal record 9.900. The floor lineup continued to show up with Yanish closing the meet with a 9.950, winning the individual title.
Oregon State entered three gymnasts for the all-around competition. Both Peterson and Bird saw personal records in their combined totals. Peterson added two career-bests on beam and bars for her third-place finish while Bird notched three career-bests on bars, beam, and floor to finish fourth overall.
Overall, the Beavers saw seven personal with three scores matching previous bests. Sophomore Alexa McClung ran through her first-ever routine in competition with an exhibition on bars. 
The Beavers will head back on the road to face UCLA on Feb. 27 for a mid-morning meet on Pac-12 Networks.
