Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza Named Pac-12 Player of the Week

Feb 23, 2021

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona senior centerfielder Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week after an impressive weekend at the plate at the Hillenbrand Invitational, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Palomino-Cardoza reached base in 13 of her 17 plate appearances across the five games (.765 OBP), hitting .667 in 12 at-bats with a pair of home runs. She scored 11 of Arizona's 45 runs during the Wildcats' 5-0 start at the Hillenbrand Invitational.

The Mission Viejo, California native had a hit in every game of the weekend, including three multi-hit games. Dating back to last season, Palomino-Cardoza has now reached base in 18 consecutive games, two shy of her career-long.

Among players with double-digit at-bats this season, Palomino-Cardoza ranks third in both batting average (.667) and on-base percentage (.765).

Palomino-Cardoza's two home runs gave her 63 for her career, moving her into 13th place in Pac-12 history. She also moved into a tie for second in the NCAA behind Jessie Harper's 76 in active career home run leaders.

The award is Palomino-Cardoza's third weekly Pac-12 honor. She was a Pac-12 Freshman of the Week in 2017 (3/27-4/2) and Pac-12 Player of the Week in 2019 (5/6-12).
