Brito Earns Pac-12 Freshman Honor

Feb 23, 2021

Oregon true freshman shortstop Alyssa Brito was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week following her clutch play in two games over the weekend at Fresno State, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Brito led the team in hitting in the two-game series, going 4-for-7 with three extra-base hits (two HRs, one double) while driving in three runs and scoring three. Her two home runs came in clutch situations with both either tying the game or giving the Ducks the lead.
In Saturday's game, Brito ignited a five-run second inning with a lead off solo homer to tie the game at two before Oregon broke things open. She later added an RBI triple and finished the game a double shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. It was the first three-hit game of her career and first career game with multiple extra-base hits.
Brito again came up clutch in Sunday's win, again leading off an inning with a long homer, this time in the fourth inning making it 2-1 and putting the Ducks in front for good. She also played solid defense over the weekend, finishing with six assists and a put out without committing an error.
The Tustin, Calif. native has caught fire over the last four games, hitting .583 (7-for-12) with seven RBIs, two homers, a double and a triple over that stretch. She has a hit and an RBI in each of the last four games while each of her seven hits and RBIs have come over that span.
