George Named Pac-12 Gymnast Of The Week

Feb 23, 2021

SAN FRANCISCO – California women's gymnastics senior Kyana George was named the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
This is George's fourth career Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week honor, as she won the award three times during the 2020 season. This is the second-straight week that Cal has earned the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week honor as Nevaeh DeSouza earned her first career award last week. Andi Li was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week last week as Cal has now won three weekly awards this year.
George won the all-around competition at Oregon State on Sunday afternoon with a 39.650, the third-highest all-around score in school history and tied for the seventh-best score in the country this year. George tied her own career high, which she set at the 2019 NCAA Regionals. George recorded a 9.90 on the bars and floor and 9.925 marks on both the vault and beam. She tied career highs on the vault, bars, beam and the all-around in a comprehensive performance. She tallied wins on the vault, beam and all-around competitions, but also finished top-three on the bars and floor exercise.
Her 9.90 on uneven bars helped Cal record the second-best bars score in school history with a 49.550. Her performance helped Cal earn the program's first-ever victory at Oregon State.
George has a team-high nine event wins this season and 16 top-three finishes. She now has 85 career top-three finishes and 36 event wins. George also received the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award twice during the 2018 campaign and was named first team all-conference in the all-around and vault last year. She was also an honorable mention all-Pac-12 honoree in 2020.
Cal will be back in action on Friday as they head to No. 4 Utah for a much-anticipated matchup against the Utes. The meet will start at 6 p.m. PT/7 p.m. MT and will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
