THIS WEEK — UCLA (4-2), ranked No. 7  in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, will host Concordia (0-3) for a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) match --- on Thursday in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. The same two teams will then meet up on Saturday night at 7:30 in Irvine. UCLA is coming off of a pair of road victories at USC last week headlined by the play of Cole Ketrzynski who was named MPSF Player of the Week. The Bruins held the Trojans under .200 hitting % in both matches. The Eagles are slated to return to the court after a two-week pause after opening with losses to Pepperdine (2) and Grand Canyon (1). 
All of this season's home matches are scheduled to be played in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. No fans will be present for the 2021 UCLA home matches.

LAST MEETING -- Last February, the Bruins used a 17-kill effort by Cole Ketrzynski to help earn a four-set win at Irvine (25-19, 17-25, 28-26, 25-17) in the only meeting of 2020. The Bruins outhit the Eagles .301 to .222 in that contest and won the blocking battle 12.0 to 8.5. Each team recorded nine aces in the match. The Bruins have won the previous nine meetings with CUI which joined the MPSF for the 2018 season.

NOTES -- Cole Ketrzynski was named the Molten/MPSF Offensive Player of the Week and Off the Block National Opposite of the Week after totaling 18 kill (2/18) and 21 kill (2/20) efforts in a pair of wins at USC ...  Ketrzynski paced UCLA with 13 kills in the opener against GCU ... His 17 kills in last season's win at Concordia were the most by a Bruin true freshman since Micah Ma'a put down 18 balls against Hawai'i in Feb. 2016 ...  Sam Kobrine posted a career high 44 set assists in the Saturday (2/20) win at USC in which the Bruins hit .304 ... Kobrine recorded a triple-double vs. USC (2/13) with 14 kills, 15 assists and 10 digs ... Ethan Champlin tied his career-high with 13 kills at USC (2/20) while hitting .400 ... Champlin was named Molten/Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Defensive Player of the Week (2/8) after his performance at BYU - 15 digs, 6 blocks, 2 aces, 18 kills and handled 40 of 41 serves without error in the two matches ... Austin Matautia had a career-best 5 blocks (2/20) in the Saturday win at USC .... Matautia hit .400 with 8 kills in the win at BYU ... Merrick McHenry returned to action at USC and recorded a block solo and 4 block assists in the Saturday win (2/20) ... Cole Pender had 11 digs, one shy of his career best, in the 2021 opener against GCU ... Kyle Vom Steeg totaled 14 kills in a pair of starts at BYU, his first as a Bruin ... Ian Parish had a career-high four blocks in a start at USC (2/20) ... Adam Parks registered a block solo and 3 blocks assists versus USC (2/18) in a start at middle blocker ... Sam Burgi recorded a career-best six kills in a start against the Trojans (2/13) ... Middle blocker Daniel Matheney  put down a career-best 10 spikes versus GCU in the opener while hitting .500 after recording 15 kills and 8 blocks in the last 3 matches of 2020 ... Alex Knight saw his first action of the 2021 season at USC and ended up with 3 kills, 4 digs, 1 block solo, 2 block assists (2/18) ... The Bruins finished 2020 at No. 9 in the final 2020 AVCA Coaches poll after seeing their season end early due to the pandemic.
AT HOME -- The Bruins have split their first two home matches ... UCLA had an eight-match Pauley Pavilion win streak canceled with the USC loss (2/13) ... Over the past five-plus seasons, UCLA is 41-6 in matches played in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom (2016: 10-1--lost to UCI, 2017: 8-1--CSUN, 2018: 13-2--Long Beach 2xs, 2019: 7-1--Long Beach; 2020: 2-0; 2021: 1-1--USC).

ON THE ROAD -- UCLA is 3-1 on the road this season after sweeping USC and splitting a pair of matches at BYU.

NCAA STATS -- UCLA enters the week sixth in the nation in set assists (11.64) and blocks (2.54) ... It rates seventh in kills per set (12.36).

MPSF -- Details regarding the postseason MPSF Championship Tournament will be announced at a later date. Due to the possibility of an unbalanced number of matches this year, conference wins (NOT win percentage), will be the first criteria looked at to determine MPSF Tournament seeding. Conference win percentage will be the first tiebreaker.
