> Washington State begins Pac-12 play this weekend with a pair of contests against Utah at home on the Palouse. The first game Friday counts in the Pac-12 standings while the Sunday contest plays as a non-conference game. The two teams have split the last four meetings with each winning at home as the Cougs took last season's matchup, 4-1, at Lower Soccer Field.
> WSU will continue to play in the "Bubble" early in the season due to winter weather, opening the year away from Lower Soccer Field for the first time since 1992. The Cougs have previously played at Martin Stadium when away from their home turf.
> Under head coach Todd Shulenberger, the Cougs have gone 38-14-4 at home in five seasons including winning a program record 10 games in 2018.
> The Cougs are a perfect 3-0-0 on the year after shutting out Idaho, 3-0, last week for their first clean sheet of the year.
> The offense has been clicking having scored 9 goals in three games with six difference scorers including a pair of first time scorers.
> Junior Mykiaa Minniss earned the Cougs first Pac-12 weekly award of the season grabbing Defensive POW after leading the team to the shutout of Idaho while scoring the game-winner.
> The Cougs enter the third week of the seasons having moved up to #15 in the poll. WSU is the fifth highest ranked team in the Pac-12.
> Senior Elyse Bennett has come out firing leading the team with three goals and one assist. The senior scored in three-straight games for the first time in her career.
> Freshman Margie Detrizio has wasted no time getting into the mix in her first season having scored in back-to-back games while also adding one in her first three collegiate games.
> WSU's freshmen have made an immediate impact notching three goals (Gray, Detrizio (2)) and four assists (Detrizio, Whieldon (2), McGill) in three games.
> The senior class continues to cement its legacy as the most decorated class in program history having won 42 games (record is 50 wins) and advancing to at least the second round in each of their three seasons, a program first.

The Cougs begin Pac-12 play with Utah coming to the Palouse for a pair of games over the weekend. The contest Friday counts towards the conference standings while the Sunday matinee will be a non-counting out-of-conference matchup. The two teams have played even for the last few seasons splitting the previous four contests with each team winning on their home field. The Cougs took last seasons matchup at Lower Soccer Field, 4-1, with Grayson Lynch and Elyse Bennett each notching a goal against the Utes.

For the first time this season captain Mykiaa Minniss was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. Minniss is the first Cougar to earn a weekly award in 2021 and the first since all-american Morgan Weaver earned offensive honors Nov. 5, 2019 and the first defensive award for the Cougs since Brianna Alger earned her second of the season Sept. 24, 2019. It is the second career award for Minniss who earned the award as a freshman in her second week of action in 2018.
Leading the team to a perfect 3-0 start to the new season, Minniss propelled the Cougs to a 3-0 shutout of regional rival Idaho Friday night in the Bubble, earning the team's first shutout of the year. When not dominating the defensive end, Minniss made her presence felt on the offensive end of the pitch as well as the junior made good on one of the many Cougar corners in the match, tapping home the would-be game-winner in the 44' of action.

Playing for the first time on the collegiate stage, freshman Margie Detrizio has announced herself as force to be reckoned with as the first-year striker has scored a pair of goals and added an assist in her first three games. The freshman has scored in back-to-back games and sits second on the team in points with 5 off the bench as a super sub for the Cougs.
Detrizio joins teammates MacKenzie Frimpong-Ellertson and Elyse Bennett as freshmen to score in back-to-back games in their first seasons and both went on to be named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman team.

With the Pac-12 schedule beginning the Cougs are looking to create a winning streak after taking their opener last season, 2-1, over Oregon State after dropping their previous two openers.
All-time the Cougs are 10-11-3 in conference openers and 4-2-2 since the conference became the Pac-12.
