SAN DIEGO – The #5 Washington Huskies began the weekend with a win, taking down San Diego State 6-1. Baylee Klingler and SilentRain Espinoza each had three hits for the Dawgs. Klingler and Sis Bates led the way with two RBI each.

It was another virtuoso performance from Gabbie Plain in the circle, who struck out 12 and allowed only three hits. Plain gave up a run in the first inning, then allowed just three more baserunners all game long. The senior would end the night retiring seven straight, even striking out the side in the sixth.

Washington never trailed in the game, taking the lead just four batters in. The Huskies would use another late-inning surge to put the game away: this time, Washington score four runs in the sixth inning of what was then a 2-1 game to secure the win. San Diego State would not put another runner on base after that offensive push from the Huskies.

  • First Inning: It took just four batters for Washington to get on the board. Morganne Flores picked up the RBI with a single, bringing Klingler around to score. San Diego State also scored in the inning on an RBI double in the bottom half.
  • Third Inning: Klingler led off with a hit once again, this time doubling down the line. Bates' single two pitches later put the Huskies up for good.
  • Sixth Inning: Washington struck for four runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach. Five of the first six batters reached base safely. Jadelyn Allchin, Klingler, and Bates got the RBI, with Klingler's third hit of the day bringing in two runs.
  • Klingler (3x4, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI) has scored a run in five straight games, with eight runs scored in that time.
  • Bates (2x2, 2 RBI) has now driven in runs in four consecutive games and eight of the last nine.
  • Plain (7.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 12 K) has struck out ten or more batters in four straight starts.
  • Plain joins Danielle Lawrie, Taran Alvelo, and Ashley Boek as the only Huskies with 20+ double-digit strikeout games in their careers.
  • Espinoza (3x4) had her third multi-hit game of the season.

Washington will play San Diego State one more time tomorrow, at 1:00 pm. That game will be streamed live via YouTube.
