LOS ANGELES – The No. 14 USC women's soccer team dropped its Pac-12 opener on the road on Friday night, falling 1-0 at Arizona State.
The Sun Devils found an early goal on a set piece and despite controlling the action for much of the night, USC was unable to respond, falling to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in Pac-12 play. ASU moves to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in conference action.
The Trojans gave up a corner in the 14th minute and Nicole Douglas floated home a header to give the Sun Devils the game-winning score before 15 minutes were even gone on the night.
USC came back with a good chance just minutes later, with Savannah DeMelo sending a shot off the crossbar in the 16th minute. The Trojans put two shots on target in the second half, but both were saved. USC outshot the Sun Devils 15-6 in the game, with the lone goal being ASU's only shot on target.
14' – ASU: Nicole Douglas (assisted by Alexia Delgado) – Delgado sent in a corner from the left side and Douglas sent a floating header into the upper left corner.
The Trojans return home for a pair of games next week, taking on Oregon State on Friday (March 5) and Oregon on Sunday (March 7). Friday's game will be live streamed on USCTrojans.com and Sunday's game will be on the Pac-12 Network.
