Results - Oregon 4, BYU 3

EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman Janice Tjen toughed out a tight, three-set battle at No. 1 singles to lift the Oregon women's tennis team to a 4-3 win Friday over BYU. The Ducks have now won five in a row and improve to 5-1 this season.
How it Happened: With the match tied at 3-all, Tjen and BYU's Anastasia Abramyan were deep in the third set which ended up in a tiebraker. The UO freshman won four of the first six points, leading 4-2 at the switch, and then rattled off the final three points in the 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(3) victory. Tjen is now 6-0 at No. 1 singles this year.
With the doubles point in hand, the Ducks went out to a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph by Rifanty Kahfiani at No. 3 singles. It was her fifth-consecutive win and the 25th dual victory of her Oregon career.
BYU (6-4) got on the board with a straight-set win at No. 6 singles but Uxia Martinez Moral, another freshman, pushed the Ducks' lead to 3-1 with a three-set win at the fourth spot in the lineup. Martinez Moral remained undefeated (6-0) with the 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win.
Including Martinez Moral's match, the last four matches on court were all decided in three sets. BYU pulled even at 3-all with consecutive wins at No. 2 and 5 singles, respectively.
In doubles, Tjen and Lillian Mould were first off court with a 6-1 victory at the No. 2 spot. BYU picked up a win by retirement at No. 3 doubles; the visitors led 5-4 at the time the match was stopped. At No. 1, Kahfiani and Uxia Martinez Moral clinched the opening point with a 6-3 win.
Quotable: Head coach Courtney Nagle
"I'm so proud of the way the whole team competed today. BYU is a very good team and well coached so today was a great win for us, and exactly the type of match and win we needed heading into the rest of our season. And to have Janice (Tjen), a freshman, clinch it for us in that final match is great experience for her going forward."
