CORVALLIS, Ore. – Freshman forward Grayson Doody scored his first collegiate goal in the 11th minute, but No. 13 Oregon State netted a pair late in the second half to defeat UCLA 2-1 on Saturday at Paul Lorenz Field.
Junior goalkeeper Justin Garces made four saves for the Bruins (1-2-1, 0-1-1 Pac-12), who were out-shot 15-2.
A great pass from midfielder Andrew Paoli set up the Bruins' goal, as the senior, just ahead of the midfield stripe, right-footed a ball into the box to Doody, who chested it forward and down to his foot, flicking it past the Oregon State goalkeeper to put UCLA on top.
After a brief sprinkler delay to start the second half, Oregon State (5-0-0, 2-0-0 Pac-12) had a chance to tie it up in the 58th minute following a UCLA foul in the box. But Garces stopped Gloire Amanda's penalty shot attempt to the right side of the goal to keep the Beavers scoreless.
Oregon State finally broke through with the equalizer in the 74th minute, adding the game-winning goal in the 85th.
Next up for the Bruins is a matchup at No. 4 Stanford on Saturday, March 6 at 2 p.m. The contest will air on Pac-12 Network.
