Baseball Drops Series Finale at LMU

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Utah baseball team dropped its final game of the series to Loyola Marymount 4-1 at Page Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 28.
Chase Fernlund went 2-4 on the day with two singles.
Trey Clarkson got his second start of the season and pitched 3.1 innings not allowing a run.
In the second inning, Utah threatened with a one-out triple from Shea Kramer. The Utes couldn't capitalize stranding him at third.
The next couple of innings, Utah played some solid defense stranding five LMU runners. In the fifth, the Lions broke through with two runs, but the Utes limited the damage by throwing a guy trying to score at the plate.
In the seventh inning, LMU tacked on two more runs to make the score 4-0.
Utah finally broke through in the ninth inning, pushing Tyler Thompson across home plate, but couldn't manufacture anymore runs dropping the game, 4-1.
Matthew Sox relieved Clarkson and pitched 1.0 inning and gave up two earned runs on one hit. Brayson Hurdsman finished the game off pitching the final 3.2 innings. Hurdsman had three strikeouts while giving up two runs.
The Utes fall to 1-5 on the season.
Next up, Utah will face a familiar foe playing a three-game series against Arizona State. The two teams are playing a non-conference series down in Tempe, Ariz. Beginning Friday, Mar. 5 at 6:35 p.m.
