Grant Willits and Turner Win Individual Titles; OSU Claims 2nd at Pac-12s

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State wrestling team finished the 2021 Pac-12 Wrestling Championship in second-place on Sunday in Gill Coliseum.
 
The Beavers posted a team score of 123.0, only trailing Arizona State who recorded 138.0 points.
 
#20 Devan Turner and #14 Grant Willits became the 27th and 28th Pac-12 individual champions in the program. Both wrestlers also earned their second individual title, making them just the seventh and eighth athletes in school history with multiple Pac-12 titles.  
 
OSU had four Beavers -- #20 Devan Turner (133), #14 Grant Willits (141), #12 Hunter Willits (157), and #30 J.J. Dixon (197) – qualify for the 2021 NCAA Wrestling Championships on March 18-20 in St. Louis, Missouri.
 
No. 1 seed Grant Willits and No. 2 seed Devan Turner paced the Beavers on Sunday. Following a first-round bye for each, Turner came out to earn a 4-3 overtime decision against #24 Jason Miranda (Stanford) in the semifinals. Likewise, Grant topped Julian Chlebove with a 7-2 semifinal decision.
 
It was a pair of back-to-back explosive finishes for Oregon State. #20 Turner (133) led off at 133 with a 3-1 decision over #30 Chance Rich of CSU Bakersfield for his second straight title. #14 Grant (141) followed with a fall at 4:42 over Stanford's Real Woods for his second title in three years.
 
Hunter Willits (157), Ryan Reyes (184), and J.J. Dixon (197) all went into the day with a first-round bye and finished second in his respective weight class.
 
#12 Hunter (157) made a stand in the semifinals with a 14-2 major decision over Brawley Lamer from Cal Poly, before falling to Arizona State's #12 Jacori Teemer by way of decision in the championship, 9-4.
 
It was a 9-4 decision against Jared Hill (Stanford) that secured Reyes' spot in the finals. In a battle of top-25 wrestlers, #24 Reyes (184) fell to #23 Dom Ducharme (CSU Bakersfield) in overtime, 3-2.
 
#30 Dixon (197) fought his way to semifinal win over Josh Loomer of CSU Bakersfield, posting a 2-0 decision. The finals matchup went to #4 Kordell Norfleet (ASU) with a 16-4 major decision over Dixon.
 
#26 Brandon Kaylor (125) and Matthew Olguin (165) each earned a third-place finish in the event.
