Feb 28, 2021

TEMPE, ARIZ. — The No. 1 USC women's water polo team kept its slate clean in 2021 action in nothing a fourth win at the ASU Invitational with this mornings' 13-7 victory over No. 6 Michigan in Tempe, Ariz. Three Trojans tallied hat tricks in the win — Bayley Weber, Grace Tehaney and Maud Megens — to help keep USC perfect on the year with a 5-0 overall record.

After Michigan converted on an early 5-meter penalty show, USC rattled off five straight goals in the first to build out a 5-1 advantage eight minutes into the action. Weber struck twice in that rally, delivering the first and fifth goals of the Trojans' surge into the lead. In the second, Michigan got another 5-meter penalty shot to go before managing two even scores in between goals from Tehaney and Denise Mammolito as the Trojans gripped a 7-4 lead by halftime. In the third, USC unleashed the first three goals of that frame. Kelsey McIntosh started the rally, with Megens and Weber both delivering for the Trojans to craft a 10-4 lead. Michigan struck back with two goals in the late goings of the frame, making it 10-6 Trojans entering the fourth. The only Wolverine goal of the final frame came on a 6-on-5, while Megens and Tehaney got themselves their third goals of the day before Téa Poljak had the final word for USC in topping off a 13-7 Trojan victory.

The USC women will return to action with their first MPSF matches of the year when the Trojans take a trip to Berkeley to face Cal on March 20 and 21.
