Utah Men’s Swimming Completes First Day of Pac-12 Championships

HOUSTON, Texas - The Utah men's swim program kicked off the first night of the Pac-12 Men's Swimming Championships, competing in the 800 free relay and 400 medley relay on Sunday night.
 
The Utes started off the meet taking fifth place in the 800 free relay with a time of 6:32.71. The relay was raced by Cole Giandinoto, Marko Kovacic, Dylan Becker, and Noah Carlson.  Giandinoto and Carlson had 200 split times of 1:37.01 and 1:37.03 to lead the group.
 
Next up was the 400 medley relay, where Utah placed fifth with an NCAA consideration time of 3:07.65, which is just .16 seconds shy of matching the school record time.  The relay was raced with Andrei Ungur swimming back, Andrew Britton swimming breast, Ben Waterman swimming fly, and Cooper Deryk swimming free. 
 
Propelled by a conference-best diving performance over the past few days by the Ute men's diving team, Utah leads after day one of the championships with 189 points. Stanford is in second (173), while Arizona (152) rounds out the top-three.
 
The second day of competition will continue tomorrow with the men swimming the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free.  The prelims will begin at 10 a.m. MT and the finals will start at 5 p.m. MT.
