USC’s Nikola Miljenic Takes 5th in 50 Free On Day 2 of Pac-12 Championships
Senior Nikola Miljenic made his fourth career appearance in a conference A final to highlight USC's second evening at the 2021 Pac-12 Men's Swimming Championships on Monday (March 1) in Houston, Texas.
USC sits in fifth place with 190 points heading into day three of competition tomorrow. Stanford is in first with 339 points, followed by Cal (334), Arizona (271) and Utah (235).
Miljenic's 19.60 finals time led him to his second consecutive fifth-place finish in the A-finals of the 50y free. Last year, he posted a 19.48 to finish fifth.
Sophomore Max Saunders tied for first in the consolation final of the 50y free, touching in an NCAA B cut time of 19.81. Saunders' time would've been the seventh fastest in the A final. Joining Saunders in the consolation final was Billy Cruz Zuniga who touched third in 19.87.
Junior Dom Margarino finished sixth in the consolation final of the 500y free, posting a 4:23.56. Sophomore Ivan Puskovitch was eighth in 4:25.05.
Also in the 500y free was sophomore David Mertz who led the way for the Trojans in the bonus final, finishing fifth in 4:27.40. Joining Mertz in the bonus final was Owen Kao (second, 4:30.21) and Trent Martinez (eighth, 4:30.81).
