Rucker Named Pac-12 Specialist of the Week
SAN FRANCISCO – After her first collegiate event victory from a career-high effort, Jaedyn Rucker has been named the Pac-12 Specialist of the Week for the first time of her young Ute career. It is her third award of the season after being a two-time recipient of the Coaches' Choice award in previous weeks.
Rucker posted a career-best 9.95 on floor to win her first event title as a Red Rock in the win over No. 9 California. While holding a narrow margin over Cal in the last rotation, the sophomore posted the highest score on floor in the win over the Golden Bears to do her part in keeping Utah as the only undefeated team in conference play.
Along with Rucker's 9.95 on the final event, she scored a 9.825 on vault to have both scores counted toward the team total. She is ranked No. 8 on floor in the Pac-12 and has an NQS of a 9.90, which is Utah's second-best mark on the event.
Utah now holds a conference-best 12 weekly honors this season. Maile O'Keefe has earned three Gymnast of the Week honors, while Rucker and Alexia Burch have earned two Coaches' Choice awards and a Specialist of the Week honor each. Sydney Soloski boasts two Specialist of the Week awards and Abby Paulson has also been named a Specialist of the Week to round out awards to this point for Utah.
Rucker and the Utah gymnastics team will close out Pac-12 play against No. 23 Oregon State this Friday, March 5. The Utes and Beavers will compete at 5 p.m. PT/6 p.m. MT at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Ore.
