Round 3 Results

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – California men's golf's combined score of 294 (+6) in Wednesday's final round was its lowest of the tournament. The Bears held their own against some of the nation's top teams, ultimately finishing 13th overall.
Freshman Sampson Zheng remained Cal's leader throughout the tournament and shot a 73 (+1) in the final round to match his first round score. Zheng birdied four of his first nine holes today and entered the back half of his round three under before a pair of double bogeys put him one over par. The Nagoya, Japan native finished the competition tied for 43rd with a final score of 225 (+9).
Senior Finigan Tilly also matched his lowest score of the tournament on Wednesday with a score of 74 (+2). He collected three birdies today and his final score of 227 (+11) placed him in a tie for 53rd. Freshman Aaron Du also finished with a 74 (+2) in the final round and he tied for 56th with 228 (+12) strokes overall. Du tied with Zheng for the most birdies of any Bear in third round (four). Cal's final scorer was junior James Song. He put together his best score of the tournament on Wednesday (73, +1) which is tied with Zheng for the lowest score of the team throughout the Cabo Collegiate.
"While the results might not look good finishing 13th out of 16 teams, I know this team is making progress," Alex and Marie Shipman Director of Men's Golf Walter Chun said. "The Cabo Collegiate is the strongest field in all of college golf this spring and it's on a PGA Course (site of the Texas Valero Open). It's not easy traveling to a different time zone, different climate, different type of grass, but we held our own and competed well. We've finished the first half of our regular season and have some time before our next tournament. I like the progress being made by all players, and we look forward to playing at Stanford for The Goodwin."
Cal will return to action at the end of March when it heads to the south bay for The Goodwin. The tournament is set to take place March 25-27.
