Washington Rolls 3-0 In First Road Game
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Washington Huskies waltzed to a big Pac-12 win, taking down the Arizona Wildcats 3-0 in their first road game of the year. Ameera Hussen, Ruby Hellstrom, and Margaux Clarke all had goals for the Huskies. Hussen also helped create a goal off a corner kick as the Huskies had their biggest Pac-12 road win since 2011. This is also the first time Washington has ever had four shutouts in the first five games of a season.
Clarke's goal was the first of her collegiate career. Kala McDaniel had an assist, her first point as a Husky. Sianna Siemonsma also had an assist in the game, her first point of 2021. Hellstrom's goal was her first of the year, giving her four points so far.
Olivia Sekany saved the only shot she faced as Washington held the opposition to one or fewer shots on goal for the fourth consecutive game. Only Seattle U in the season opener has had more than one shot on goal against Washington this year.
The Wildcats had the first shot of the game, coming in the third minute. Washington would have the next eight shots, not allowing another shot until the 70th minute. By that time, the Huskies had built a 2-0 lead off Hussen and Hellstrom's goals.
Arizona's first and only shot on goal would come in the 83rd minute, with Washington ahead 3-0. This was the third time this season that Washington has not allowed a shot on goal until at least the 80th minute.
