For the second consecutive season, the Cal women's golf team enters the Juli Inkster Invitational riding high.

Last year, the Bears came into the tournament at the Meadow Club fresh off a victory at the Gunrock Invitational, the program's first win in four years. This season, Cal will take to the links having just fired its best team score in six years – a 7-under par finish at the 2021 Gunrock Invitational.

Individually, it's more déjà vu for Cal junior Katherine Zhu. She was the medalist at Gunrock last year, also the team's first individual champion in four years. Last week, Zhu shot a career-best 6-under par – the best score from a Cal golfer in three years.

Zhu and the Bears also fared well at last year's Juli Inkster Invitational. Zhu and teammate Jasmine Lew finished in a tie for third place while the Bears took fourth place as a team. Last year's Juli Inkster Invitational was the team's final competition before the NCAA suspended the winter and spring seasons because of COVID-19.

Zhu has compiled a scoring average of 73.0 so far this season and has two top-10 finishes. The Cal record for scoring average for a season is 72.83, set by Jiyoon Jang in 2017-18.

Cal is one of 13 teams competing at the Inkster, including Pac-12 foes Stanford, Washington and Washington State. The first 36 holes will be played Monday with the final 18 slated for Tuesday.
