Mar 6, 2021

HENDERSON, Nev. – The No. 19-ranked Washington State rowing team had its varsity four boat collect a second-place finish against a pair of Washington boats to highlight the Cougar's first NCAA regatta in 490 days.

The No. 19 Cougars opened their morning on Lake Las Vegas with a second-place finish in the varsity four race, defeating the Husky 'B' team. Washington State finished with a time of 7:33.35 in the its first race of the day.

Washington State's first varsity eight boat lost a head-to-head matchup against the UW first varsity eight boat, as the Cougars ended the race with a time of 6:40.00.

"The mission today was to get out there and find out where we are at," said head coach Jane LaRiviere. "Washington lived up to their No. 1-ranking today. It's fantastic to see how we stack-up against the top-ranked team in the country, and we identified a lot of things that we can work on over the next couple of weeks. It was great to compete for the first time in 490 days, and we look forward to our next regatta against Oregon State."

The WSU second varsity eight boast finished third against the Washington second and third varsity eight squads, completing the regatta in 6:57.48.

Saturday was the first of two regattas that the Cougars will run on Lake Las Vegas this spring. Washington State will return to Henderson, Nevada on April 10 for the Pac-12 Invitational.

"The venue on Lake Las Vegas is one of a kind and Jim Anderson is doing some really cool stuff down here," said LaRiviere. "We're looking forward to coming back down here in April to compete against the rest of the Pac-12."

Washington State's next regatta is set for March 20 against Oregon State on Dexter Lake.
