Arizona State Comes From Behind to Beat Arizona
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona Volleyball won the first two sets on Sunday evening in Tempe, but could not hold on as Arizona State came back to win in five (26-28, 12-25, 25-16, 25-22, 15-10).
The Wildcats' road woes continued as Arizona, which has won five straight matches in McKale Center, have not won a match away from home. UA fell to 5-9 this season overall.
Senior outside hitter Paige Whipple had a monster double-double, totaling 14 kills and 19 digs in the loss. She hit .243 in the match. Sofia Maldonado Diaz led Arizona with 15 kills.
Arizona was better nearly across the board tonight, posting more kills (59-51) on a better hitting percentage (.259-.216), had more digs (52-51) and more blocks (10-9), but struggled with the ASU serve. ASU had nine aces to Arizona's four. UA also had 15 service errors in the match.
The Cats will look to bounce back next weekend when they host Colorado on Friday and Sunday.
