TUCSON, Ariz. – The Oregon women's golf team sits in fourth place after kicking off the Arizona Wildcat Invitational with 36 holes on Monday at Sewailo Golf Club.

The Ducks came out strong with 5-under 283 in the opening round before finishing with a 7-over 295 in the second round. Oregon is 2 over for the tournament, five shots behind third-place Oklahoma State and 10 shots in front of a trio of teams tied for fifth place. Texas leads the field at 14 under.

Oregon was led by standout freshman Hsin-Yu (Cynthia) Lu, who opened the day with a terrific 5-under 67 and sits in a tie for fourth place overall at 4 under through two rounds. Sophomore Briana Chacon also enjoyed a strong first day, headlined by a 1-under 71 in the second round that has her tied for sixth overall at -1.

How it Happened: Lu started and ended her opening round with bogeys, but the freshman was absolutely stellar on the 16 holes in-between en route to a 5-under 67. After making a bogey on 18 – her first hole of the day due to a shotgun start – Lu made four straight pars before going on a run of seven birdies in 12 holes. Lu ended the first round in third place and just two strokes off the lead after tying for the eighth-best individual round in program history.

Lu – who is No. 50 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings – opened her second round with a birdie on 18 and added two more birdies to get to 3 under for the round through 11 holes. The freshman finished with four bogeys across her final seven holes but still came into the clubhouse at 4 under overall, just three strokes back of individual leader Allisen Corpuz (USC) entering Tuesday's final round.

Chacon was steady throughout the day, making three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars in the first round to card an even-par 72. The sophomore was 2 over through four holes in the second round before buckling down to shoot 3 under across her final 14 holes of the day and come in with a 71. Chacon is in a four-way tie for sixth place, six shots off the lead.

Sophomore Sofie Kibsgaard Nielsen also broke par on Monday, firing a 1-under 71 in the opening round with three birdies and just two bogeys. Nielsen ended the day with a 4-over 76 in the second round to move to 3-over-par for the day, giving the Ducks three players in the individual top 25.

Sophomore Ching-Tzu Chen finished with a strong 1-over 73 to round out the counting scores for the Ducks in the opening round before shooting 4 over in the second round. Junior Tze-Han (Heather) Lin improved upon a 5-over 77 in the first round with a 3-over 75 in the second to contribute a counting score for the team.
