Zane Mills Named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week

Mar 9, 2021

SAN FRANCISCO (March 9, 2021) – Washington State starting pitcher Zane Mills was named the Pac-12 Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Mills earns his first career Pac-12 accolade after striking out seven in a career-high eight innings to pick up the win against Seattle U in last Friday's home-opener. The junior righthander allowed just one unearned run on six hits and retired 13 straight hitters at one point to improve his record to 3-0.

The Portland native enters the week third in the country with a Pac-12-best 21.1 innings, tied for the league lead in wins, second with a 0.42 ERA and third with 23 strikeouts.

Washington State took two of the three games against Seattle U over the weekend, giving WSU series wins in the first three weekends of the season for the first time since 2008. The Cougars are 9-2, matching the program's best start since 2010 and head to Seattle this weekend for a pair of games against Seattle U and two nonconference contests against Washington.
