Chen, McDivitt Lead Utah Diving On Final Day Of NCAA Zone E Championships

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Tony Chen and Luke McDivitt qualified for the NCAA Championships on the 1-meter board after the final day of competition in Flagstaff, Ariz., earning their second and third bids, respectively, to the NCAA Championships. After the three days of competition at the NCAA Zone E Championships, Utah diving will send four divers to the NCAA Championships, which is the most in a single season for the program. 

Chen finished third on the 1-meter with a score of 656.45 to end his week by qualifying for both the 3m and 1m for the second-straight year. Behind Chen was McDivitt, who rounded out his stellar week by qualifying on his third event after finishing 11th overall on the 1m with a score of 569.00.

In all, Utah finished NCAA Zones with Chen qualifying on the 3m and 1m, Luke McDivitt qualifying on platform, 1m and the 3m, Emma Ruchala qualifying on the 1m and 3m, along with Lizzy DeCecco, who earned her bid on the 1m.

Competing beside Chen and McDivitt today on the 1-meter boards were Jenner Pennock and Chase Hindmarsh, who placed 16th and 17th, respectively. The women competed on platform for the final day in Flagstaff, Ariz. and were led by Regan Caufield's 11th-place finish, which was just beyond the cutoff to earn an NCAA Championships spot. DeCecco placed 16th in the finals on platform to end her week of competition. 

The 2021 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will be held March 17-20, while the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships will take place March 24-27. Both events will take place in Greensboro, N.C.
