The Sun Devils' rise in the rankings comes after the squad flew through a 10-match win streak, until their run was cut short by a 4-0 loss to No. 2 Baylor last Sunday. Prior to the loss ASU defeated No. 50 Tulsa and No. 29 Oklahoma in the days prior to their contest with the Bears. ASU previously topped No. 22 Pepperdine earlier in the year when the Sun Devils had yet to be ranked.
Senior captain Nathan Ponwith heads into the weekend with his second Pac-12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week award under his belt, an honor that was announced Tuesday. Ponwith is 10-3 in singles competition on the season and holds an 8-4 record in doubles.
Scouting VCU
The undefeated Rams maintain a perfect 6-0 overall record, with the most recent being a 7-0 shutout over Richmond. Five of VCU's wins on the season have been shutouts. Among the Rams roster is senior Quentin Coulaud, who extended his singles record to 6-0 in the victory over Richmond.
Scouting UNLV
UNLV looks to improve their 3-7 record when they come to Tempe on Sunday. The Rebels are down their top player in Alex Kobelt and in result have fallen short of victory in their past five contests. Before his injury, Kobelt alongside doubles partner Jordan Sauer, pulled off a huge 6-4 upset over Cal's 36th-ranked Can Kaya/Paul Barretto. The doubles tandem remains 1-0.
