STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford softball split its doubleheader to Saint Mary's, Thursday at Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal (12-4) run-ruled the Gaels in the first game of the day, 9-0, before falling in the seventh to end the night, 12-8.

Emily Young was 5-for-6 at the plate on Thursday, batting in five runs on three extra-base hits – including her first home run of the season. The Cardinal swiped six bases between both games, led by three from Teaghan Cowles.

Stanford jumped to early leads in both games, scoring a combined 16 runs in the first three frames across both games – including four in the bottom of the first of each game. Stanford hit .435 (10-for-23) in the 9-0 victory, including .364 (4-for-11) with runners in scoring position.

Picking up her eighth win of the season in the first game of the doubleheader, Alana Vawter allowed only four batters on, while striking out three in 3.0 shutout innings of work. Tatum Boyd came on in the top of the fourth for her first appearance on the season – pitching 2.0 perfect innings in relief.

The Cardinal had a 7-2 lead at one point in the second game, but three errors in the top of the seventh led to a 10-run inning from the Gaels.

Sydnee Huff led off the bottom of the inning with a double to wall, as Stanford tried to rally. Huff scored on RBI double from Kaitlyn Lim, but Stanford was unable to get another run across the board.

Stanford returns to action on Sunday with a doubleheader at Cal Poly. Both games will be available on BigWest.TV, with the first game starting at 1 p.m.
