Battle in Seattle Goes to Stanford
SEATTLE, Wash. – It was a season low for shots, but it only took one to make a difference.
Catherine Paulson scored the lone goal for No. 21 Stanford in a 1-0 victory over No. 22 Washington (4-1-2, 1-1-2), Friday evening at Husky Soccer Stadium. The Cardinal (4-2-0, 3-1-0 Pac-12) fired off a season-low four shots – both teams combined for 10 shots, five on target – but played solid defense to win its third-straight match.
Paulson led a Stanford counter in the 79th minute, taking the ball across the centerline herself. She streaked down the left wing of the pitch and gave a short cross to Madison Haley from 18 yards out. Haley one-tapped it diagonally to Paulson in the box for a perfect pass, and the freshman did the rest.
That counter though ??

The goal was the first of Paulson's career, and the seventh time Stanford has scored a goal in the final 12 minutes of a match.
Katie Meyer made two saves, while Civana Kuhlmann led the Cardinal with two shots.
Stanford will return to action at home, March 20, for the first of two matches against California. The first will not count towards the Pac-12 standings.
